Green Course's Major Achievements over the last year:

  • Clean Air Act, passed July 2008, in conjunction with Israel Union of Environmental Defense, concluding a campaign of over 3 years. The approced Law will become valid in 2011.
  • "Polluter Pays" Act, passed in the Knesset, pertaining to the fines and punishment of polluting factories.
  • Nullifying of Safdie Plan- to build 24,000 house units on Jerusalem Hills and Forests.
  • Deferal of building of Ashkelon 3rd Coal Power Plant over a decade and promoting of clean energy and energy efficiency plan.
  • Sassgon Valley Hotel plans cancelled, after campaign led in conjunction with local residents and organizations.
  • Deferal of building of I'r Habahadim (army base) till further investigation into volnurability from Ramat Hovav poluting industrial zone.
  • Cancelation of Park Hazahav (the Golden Park) building plans to build house units over open park space of Kyriat Shmona
  • Public Transport Student Card produced at low price after campaign and in conjunction with Ministry of Transport.
  • Expanding of Green Campus Campaign, (adopted by Ministry of the Environment in 2007) and adopting of Green Campus Standards by further campuses.
  • Educational Activities led by Green Course student volunteers to thousands of children and youth, raising the sense of responsibility and proactivity regarding issues of environmental concern.
  • Green Course awarded President of Israel Award for Volunteering for the Environment. Award given on account of Green Course's activities promoting social- environmental issues, its concern for future generations, for the activities promoting awareness amongst the public and for assimilating the belief in the ability of the public to bring about real change
