Green Course Campaigns:
ENERGY

back to campaigns overview
Green Course is currently leading Israel's major public energy campaign.
The campaign is aimed at promoting conservation of energy and
alternative energy forms. It is known today that this is essential for
dealing with the environmental crisis in Israel, the Middle East region
and all around the globe.
A direct result of the Energy Conference Green Course
held January 2006 , with the support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation,
was the establishment of The National Energy Forum. The forum meets
monthly to craft Green Course's Energy Campaign.
The Main Goals of the Energy Campaign:
Educating the public about personal energy conservation measures available to them.
Lobby the Knesset to incorporate its Master Plan for Energy (2005) into law.
Forming a cooperative to buy solar panels for universities buildings and private individuals and groups.
Advocate for use of alternative energy sources in power plants.
Recent Events:

Green
Course's national conference was recently held in December 2006 in
Beer-Sheva. Students from across the country joined this two-day event
to discuss the environmental destruction of the Negev, a direct
consequence of growing energy needs. The conference included a short
but narrated trip around the city in which the city's social and
geographical history was discussed. Students then attended a variety of
discussions held by speakers that included local residents, university
professors, students, and non-profit workers. Topics centered on
public-policy, industrial waste and air-pollution, the health risks
posed, and the local and national repurcussions. The event concluded
with a successful demonstration in Ramat Hovav, a polluting locality
consisting of 17 factories a few kilometers from Beer-Sheva.
Green Course has also helped initiate the Clean Air Act, a law similar
to the laws in the United States and Europe. The Clean Air Act is aimed
at lowering industrial air-pollution by preventing highly-polluting
incinerators and coal power-plants from being built, improving public
transportation, and increasing regulations on industrial pollutants in
the air. This act has passed its first stage in parliament with the
help of Green Course's public campaign!
