Green Course Campaigns: Open Spaces  back to campaigns overview

Open Spaces

With the worlds population increasing, the area of open, green spaces is extremely decreasing . Green Course is active with the goal of preserving the open spaces that are still left. The open spaces include beaches, agricultural lands, finding alternatives to road building and more.

Campaign for Prevention of Safdi Plan:
Initiated by Green Course and the Coalition for Preservation of the Jerusalem Hills, we brought the two-year long campaign to critical stage.

    Results:
  • Investigator appointed by The Regional Committee for Building and Planning to advise the National Committee on the environmental impact of the Safdi Plan.
  • Increased environmental awareness throughout the city.
  • Over 16,000 signatures collected to oppose the plan.
  • 7 widely covered protests held including participation MKs & other VIPs.

    On February 6, 2007, the National Council on Planning and Building will make their final decision on the Safdi Plan. Wel will be holding a demonstration in Jerusalem; to join or support the campaign for the preservation of the hills of Jerusalem, please E-mail: info@green.org.il

Park Ayalon Campaign :

7000 dunam of the biggest park in Israel was planned in S. Tel-Aviv area. The real estate company 'Ha Zoreah' opposed the plan, preferring 10,000 housing units. A coalition of green organizations was established. Green Course was the activist arm, organizing:
On-site tour, then a protest opposite the Kelner offices of the 'Zoreah' company.
Protest outside Ministry of Interior during a top-level meeting on the subject.
National and local media coverage.

Results: We won! There will be a park, nullifying the building plans.
