Green Course Campaigns: Water
back to campaigns overview
In Israel, as in most parts of our world, drinkable water is a scarce resource. The low level of rainfalls in the Middle East, together with a dense population, are exhausting our water supplies. This year Green Course is increasing its efforts to manage a national campaign for water.
Kinneret
Despite a national law that rules that all beaches are open to the public, over recent years, private individuals and groups have begun to illegally privatize beaches on the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).
In some cases, they have illegally erected fences, in others charged the public sums reaching NIS 120 to enter the beach, and in other cases, stretches of shoreline have been completely closed off.
On Wednesday, March 22, the International Day for Water, Green Course partnered with the Society for the Protection of Nature to host a public awareness festival at Kinneret College on this issue. Three prominent MK candidates, Avodah's Prof. Babermal, Meretz's, Yossi Beilin, and Kadima's Prof. David signed the Statement of Commitment to the Kinneret, which already includes the signatures of other prominent politicians.
